Default Limited Slip?

My girlfriend has a 96 Cherokee, as far as I can tell it has a Chrysler 8.25, No ABS, and It certainly acts like its limited slip (left posi marks down my gravel driveway with it...). It has a trailer hitch which Im not sure if its stock or not, and a large spare. I was wondering if any of you could possibly tell me if its limited slip or not from this information. I will also post some pics, sorry for the quality I took them at midnight... I will be leaving to go camping for a week tomorrow, so I will try to answer questions tonight and tomorrow morning if I have the chance...

Rear end. 8.25?

Spare, definately bigger than a donut! lol

Hitch Mounting bolts, sorry for crappy pic.

If I get a chance tomorrow before we leave I will take a pic of the reciever..
Thanks,
Dylan

well that is a 8.25 theres no way to tell if its a limited slip just from looking at that picture you would actually have to pull the diff cover and look at the carrier to tell for sure. the hitch looks standard factory hitch and the spare is normal size for all cherokees

x2

Get a pic of the receiver as that will help show if it is factory easier because it could be an aftermarket hitch just using the standard nut strips like factory hitches use.

one way to check for a limited slip, this is how i found out mine had it by mistake, is just to simply jack up the rear end, and turn the wheels by hand...if they both move in the same direction, its got limited slip

went out and looked at the reciever, it is "Hidden Hitch" brand, apparently not stock... Im young and dont have anything to jack it up with to see if both tires spin.. I took the pic of the spare because I heard that if you have the 8.25 and a large spare then it is most likely a limited slip, I will go out and take pics of the reciever if I get the chance..

doesnt the jeep have the factory jack? if so, just put it under the rear diff and start lifting...if not, im sure some one you know must have a floor jack or something... you could even drive it the long distance down to me and i could jack it up..lol

That is the standard spare, not the full size spare.

thats not a large spare in that jeep...its possible it has the limited slip still tho...just gotta lift it up or do the more expencive route and take the diff cover off, but then you would have to by gear oil to put back in and a new diff cover gasket...not that it would be much...maybe 15 bucks all together, but if you can just find a jack to lift it up it would be SO much faster, and easier....

but on the other hand, maybe it wouldnt hurt to change the diff fluid in that jeep

yes, it still has the factory jack.. It was in the shop about a week ago because the rear right brake spring broke and it made a horrible grinding noise. If I remember right, we thought it was the hub and while the mechanic was checking it he spun them and as far as I remember they turned the same direction. I dont have time to jack it up today, we are leaving soon..

IF I REMEMBER CORRECTLY, they spun in the same direction. Just figured I would ask... I guess if I get a chance to jack it up I will; but if not then I guess we will find out this winter...

The trans should be in neutral with the engine off to do the "spin" test.

Also, maybe your info tag is still on the axle, on my 01 it is closer to the passenger tire and tells me that i have 3.55 gears and trac-lok.
