Keyless entry
I bought a new key fob and went to the dealership to have it programmed. The dealership told me the key fob works but their computer was unable to communicate with my ECU. Anyone know what the problem is?

If they said that their computer was unable to link up to your ECU, then it's hard to say. It could be as simple as your OBD II port is dirty, or there are wires disconnect in the back of the OBD II port. Take it to a shop or an Auto Zone and see if they can scan for codes (even if your check engine light isn't on) if they get an error code like "Cannot connect to device, check connections" the issue may lie with your OBD port.

After I finished at the dealership, I took my XJ to my mechanic. He hooked up his scan tool to the vehicle and it read just fine. And in the recent past I've had a few codes pop up. All the necessary fixes were done and the codes were cleared using my mechanic's scan tool.

Firstime00XJ : I did not think of taking it to another dealership. I'll try another dealership.

When I was last at the dealership, I asked if they could program a keyfob that I had found. They tested it on some computer there in the front office and said it worked, but when I got back to pick up my jeep, they said it would not communicate with the jeep. In the end, I ran the numbers on the back of the fob and found that even though it looked exactly like the jeep fob, it was for a Durango. Try doing a google search with the number stamped on the back of the fob.
