having a small problem with my 2001 xj. ill start it up or slow down in a parking lot or driveway and it will just shut off just like i were to turn the key off. the only thing im thinking it could be is i just cleaned my k and n air filter. anybody have any other ideas. thanks in advance

i just had one in the shop that would sputter and shut off after 20 mins of driving, it was the crank sensor, no good way to test for this though. no code was there, and we even back probed and graphed the sensor and it looked good. but it was the crank sensor. just a possibility. does it restart right away, this one had to sit a few minutes or it wouldn't restart. if it restarts right away, and its during low speeds or idling try cleaning the throttle body.

no it will start right up it runs perfect otherwise it only does it about twice a week. its really not a huge deal but i would like to get it resolved. but ya other than it just shutting off it runs like a champ.

x2 on the crank.. I didnt think much when mine died 1 time.. i put it on jack stands, let it sit for a while, while i put on lift kit etc, tried to start it up to hear that beautiful header and the damned thing wouldnt start. After a long and frustrating week of looking i ripped that ***** off and replaced it out of frustration, and............................................... ...it worked

i'd say clean out your throttle body and intake for good measure. if it's not that then keep lookin.
