Jeep won't start
Hi all, new guy here. I've got a 93 Cherokee Sport that has decided not to start anymore. I replaced the starter about 2 weeks ago, and it was running pretty well. It didn't sound overly enthusiastic about starting, though. Last Wednesday, it opted not to start at all. Radio/lights work, but when I turn the key, I only get a soft hum for a moment. Tried jumping it, in case the battery was low; no good. Checked the ignition fuses; all good. Swapped out the ignition switch; no good. Tried changing the starter relay; no good. I'm at a bit of a loss now. I hate to come begging on my first post; but you all seem pretty helpful here, and I was wondering if you could offer any suggestions. Thanks!

Follow the suggestions in this thread. If the starter is working one of these suggestions should work. Starter has to be strong enough to produce 300 RPM.

MrSquid they are the usual tips for your problem. If you read them and they don't work or you need instructions that further explains what to do just post back up. We usually try to answer the questions asked without a referal like this but the same had just been asked and I just was saving myself from additional typing as I was in a rush. Please forgive my rude referal to another thread.

No problem, BlueXJ. I had seen the CPS post and was going to give that a shot, but figured I'd check if there were other options. I appreciate being pointed to the other thread. The Jeep's not at home - it's stuck in a university parking garage, so being armed with as many approaches as possible before heading out is a good thing. Thanks for all of your help so far, and I'll post with an update - hopefully a positive one!

I have a question if you make the title "another jeep no start thread" then you must know that we have alot of these threads why not search and try your luck with some of the fixes we have offered in the past?
I hate seeing titles with "another thread about such and such"
Had to change it...

Sorry.
This morning, I attempted to start the jeep from neutral. At first, nothing happened, so I went to shift back to park. The shift lever got stuck at reverse, so I just jiggled it a bit until the button came loose, and slid back to park. Then I was able to start it. Shut down/started a couple more times, then tried to start in neutral again. Same thing happened, got stuck, jiggled lever, was able to start. Is this consistent with the neutral safety switch and CPS issues? Also, I noticed that when I started the engine, I had to manually turn the ignition lock back instead of it snapping back on its own - it kept grinding if I let it be. Now that I can get it started, we'll be bringing it back home to work on tomorrow.
