Hi my 89 had the same problem it turns out that it was the fuel pump relay,it would start then after a couple of seconds would die.your year might be different,My relay was one of the 4 between the battery and the firewall.

it can have pressure but the volume of fuel might not be enough.

the fuel pump run relay can go bad
when you start it is bypassed then goes in run mode if that relay is bad it will die

Remove vaccum hose from fuel regulator and see if there is gas present, if so replace regulator.

good luck !
In 92 I think they didnt have the auto shut down relay yet. I have a place for it in the fuse box, but you can tell its never had one in there.

I dont know how the 92 is different, but you might go ahead and try a new fuel pump, it is a pain in the ***, but might be worth it.
I have not yet found out the pressure when its off. I did pull the map sensor, and replaced the TPS. The computer will be my last thing I will try.

I was just out there and was able to keep it running on starter fluid (dangerous but had to try) so it has to be some kind of fuel delivery problem. The whole time it was running it still read about 32-35 psi. I'm pretty sure that's too low so i'm gonna order a fuel pump right now. Thanks for all your help guys! I will keep you posted.

Remove fuel rail turn key to run position (do not start) does fuel spray from injectors, if not replace regulator.

I started on this, and it the process of unplugging the fuel injectors, I decided to test the electrical connector to the injector. Ok so here's what I got - With the key turned on it read zero. As soon as it turned over it was reading volts. It was jumping anywhere from .2 to 3.0. As soon as the motor would fire, it would immediatley go to 0.00 and die. When I kept it running with starter fluid, it stayed at 0.00 the entire time. So now what sensor sends the signals to the injectors to spray once it has started?

Also, I put a brand new fuel pump in it and it didn't help

Well my Haynes manual says its the ECU that controls the signal to the injectors on fuel delivery. But is there a sensor or anything in between that could cause it to drop to 0.00 volts after it starts?

Default Figured it out!

Borrowed a friends jeep today to swap parts off of. The zero voltage reading on the injector had me thinking it was either the MAP sensor or the ECU. I swapped the MAP sensor first and no help, then put his ECU on my Jeep and RAN FINE!!!

Finally I got this figured out. I even have a friend that works at autozone who can get my money back on the fuel pump. Thanks to all who helped me out on this. And hopefully this helps someone else out one day in a search.

my buddy's comanche was doing the same thing. it was a short in the crank position sensor wiring. the exhaust manifold melted the wires.
