this thing on the side of my tranny?
I have been replacing the front main seal in my tranny, and durring the process my buddy helping my, took of a little round plate on the drivers side of the tranny thinking is was acess to disconnect the kick down linkage, any way the plate has a big cross on it and is held in with a snap ring and behind that plate there is a semi piston lookin thing with a metal pin in the middle and a spring on it, i can not get it to seat all the way in enough to put the cap and snap ring on, what a mess, if anyone could help it would be great. i figure there some thing i'm net doing.

so I'm looking at a diagram
and it looks like at the end of the rod their is a point then a little edge and a strait surface then it tapers up to its full thickness
looks like the little ridge can catch on the guide surface if its not inserted
perfectly strait
