i was messing with my intake trying some stuff out a few weeks ago and figured out how to make a cai without cutting the stock box.

the intake was originally for a 2nd gen s10 pickup with the 4.3l in it. figured it worked out good and i'd pass the idea on. i bought it a long time ago, but it was similar to the one i posted below.

How is that in improvement over stock? Air is still being brought from the factory location.

 

dunno hows its a improvement, but it seemed to help out mileage on the jeep. so i can only imagine that is musta gave it more power. here's a thought though....instead of negative criticism, why do you post up your idea of how to make it better. i dont like the idea of a exposed filter (you can tell how muddy the engine bay is that it would get full of mud, and that it only brings in warm air. so your only option really is to use the stock box and cut it to hell. or to buy something aftermarket that will cost you a fortune. so i figure this is better then both of those and it cost me nothing. now im in the process of trying to make a shield the covers up the hole in the front of the box to shield away any water that might splash up there and im thinking about installing a few air box vent in the front of the box to get more air to the filter, something similar to these
