Lift Opinions
I am planning on lifting my Jeep, like everyone else...
I dont have the funds for the lift I want, cost like $1000... Not ready for that step yet anyways...
I am going to do a budget lift, maybe 2" or 3" just for now...
Looking to keep a little ride quality...
What would you go with???
coil spacers, add a leafs and 4 shocks (2 up front 2 in the rear) ($250)
or
coil spacers, rear shackles and 4 shocks (2 up front 2 in the rear) ($180)
or
coil spacers and 2 add-a-leaf springs ($80)
or
coil spacers and shackles ($90)

You could do a 2-3 inch coils up front and AAL in rear for a little over $290 from here...Tj

would love to do actual coils up front but my g/f gave me a budget and we're in the process of moving & paying bills etc...
so as of now, coils will have to wait...
maybe do something like the spacers now and then when i get some more cash together, add the coils
def looking to spend as little as possible, but dont want to sacrifice too much on doing it right...
i guess main question is, are shackles or leafs better

OK, So Ive heard:
shackles give better flex and articulation but can wear out leafs faster (sag-age in the rear)
Leafs give a stiffer & harsher ride better for hauling & towing
If im gonna replace the whole lift in about 1 - 1 1/2 years; does it matter if i use shackles since im gonna replace the leafs anyways? (more retorical than needing an answer)
Would adding a leaf and using shackles do anything for me?
Seems like one extra leaf (bastard pack) on each might help with sag over time...
Should i still use shocks if i do shackles?
Should i still use shocks if i do shackles and leafs?
Will the shocks add any improvment to the ride quality?

I agree with going spacers and shackles.
They can be re-used with the next lift, and you have to go through the hassel of removing bolts from the leaf in the rear anyway. (in the future when you do your full lift.)
If you are on a budget though.... and you have the time/mechanical inclination...
do some research on this and other cherokee sites for "poor-man's" lifts.
Most guys take the springs off an s-10 and bolt them on (check this)
I know they can make a "bastard pack" out of them. Also, you can use front springs from other vehicles also. A few peeps have posted lists of compatable suspension parts and what kinda of lift you get from them. It might be cheaper, more durable, and have better results (lift and ride) using front springs from a junk yard grand cheokee than using spacers. Probably just as cheap too.

I was planning on making a bastard pack, if someone says leafs are good to use with shackles and shocks..
if not I'm gonna wait til I do the full upgrade

I have 4.5 junkyard parts on mine. Cost about 180 and rides great. Check my blog for more details. Not the typical Ford front springs either I used Ford Cougar springs in the front and S10 bastard packs in the rear, along with 4 JK shocks.

If you are wanting to go 33s or bigger you need to go at least 4.5'' to start. And honestly if you don't have the budget to buy the full rear leaf packs, the full front coils, the slip yolk eliminator kit, the adj control arms, the adj trac bar, extended brake lines etc etc...then don't do it....you will kick yourself later...besides, its way more expensive to buy the cheap stuff.

Stock actually on those. I will eventually get something different. Honestly though the front doesnt feel any different than it did before the lift. The back is a little bit stiff but not too much.
