I took mine off as a whole unit. Heavy, but easy relatively compared to other things.

i actually did it both ways lol. First time, just pulled the TC (as it needed to be replaced), pretty easy to do, so long as you drop the whole tranny/TC to the point you think the motor mounts are going to blow lol. Second time, pulled the whole unit as one, with out the help of the roommates i would have been fkD lol.

I'll also throw in that putting it back together is harder. Getting the 200lbs of trans/tcase is fine. Set it on a jack, slide it back, then let it down. Getting it back up is harder. I put my engine hoist through in the passenger door and lifted the assembly up through the shifter hole. Or are others here strong enough to lift it? I'm a small individual.

I was able to lift it from under with the help of 2 roommates. With each of us on a side and one in the rear to push up/down on the tail shaft it wasnt too bad. But ya, trying to line up that much weight was not fun to do. But wasnt too bad so long as you have enough hands to help out. I just used a simple floor jack, placed it in the middle of the tranny so the TC counter balanced it. Worked out pretty well all in all. Next time, im pulling the TC first tho.

I was able to get it in with my transmission jack and the help of a friend. it wasnt too bad.

(I had a guy tell me a whopper not too long ago, he said he took out and installed a transmission by himself in a 2010 diesel Dodge dually, he messed up the transmission and was taking it off himself, supposedly, well he was telling me all about it, and I said, hey how did you get the transmission out, he says he benchpressed it in place by himself, then i looked at him and said, how did you unbolt it, NO lie, he blinked for a little then he says he held the trans with his head and knee and took out the bolts. )
