These are not as easy as the drive shaft u-joints,you will be better off to have a machine shop press them off and replace with new ones, unless you have a press or a big vise.

I might have access to a large vise. It must take a lot pressure to get these caps off. They do not go back on, do they? The u-joint does not come with them..

Install complete. Thanks for the information.

If you have a large vise you can use a couple of sockets.
You'll need one just a little smaller than the cap. The second one needs to be large enough for the cap to slide into.
An extra set of hands is helpful too.

You will use the smaller socket to push the other cap into the larger socket.

If you don't have a large vise, machine shop is definately the best way to go.

Will give it a shot. Was thinking of grinding off the metal cap to make pushing it easier. Do these metal caps need to go back in?

If you can it is better, put some penatrating oil on them. Also have some patience, they can be a real, call it what you want, but a few words here and there is not uncommon.

best way is to go to checker auto parts or some other store and ask for a ujoint press thingy. its a huge clamp lookin thing that sits in your vise. it took me a pipe wrench with a 6 foot cheater bar to break the caps loose. and dont forget about the c lip retainer rings.

Used propane to heat up but didn't budge much. I grinded off the rest of the caps and tapped it with a hammer and socket. Used some wd40 and came out without much resistance..

Thanks..
