How much lift/slip yoke travel is needed for dana 44?
I just put a dana 44 in a 94 cherokee and currently don't have a lift. With the driveline off I can get about an inch of movement of the splined end into the transfer case from the point it connects with the pinion.
Is this enough? Or, how much should I plan on lifting to get normal slip yoke travel?
How much can I lift and still use the stock drivelines?

seems good to me, what axle did it replace? the 8.25" is almost the same size so you should be good to go if if was that- the D35 is a tad smaller but you will be able to make do until you lift it.

one inch of slip is fine at ride hight, but what you need to look out for
is full up travel. thats when the drive line will be at its shortest.
you need to check it buy flexing it up to your bump stops. if it gets to close you need to lengthen your bump stops so you don't
damage your TC. (or shorten you drive shaft)
and yes you can get 4.5 of lift with that DS with a 1 inch TC drop
