Default 2000 engine in a 91 Questions

I need a new engine and found one out of a 2000. I will be pulling off the coil packs and putting in my distributor. One of my questions is will my 91 intake bolt up to the 2000 head and work. I cant get the engine with the intake manifild but it will come with the exhaust manifold and all the exhaust pipe. If i can use my intake then i can bolt up my power steering pump. what else should I be warned about??

thanks in advance. And yes i have searched but nothing to this specific.

I would warn you that the 00+ heads tend to crack. Can you hear the motor run before you buy? Is it possible to use your head from the 91?

I did hear it run. From a cold start it ran perfect. it only has 106 thousand miles on it.

well, if you're not going t replace the head at least have it taken off and checked for cracks- be prepared though. Head cracking doesn't happen to every 00+ 4.0L but it's so common I know I wouldn't use it. Does the exhaust have the header with two ouputs/ running two cats? That might give you some trouble too.

Use the old stuff with the 2000 block and you're fine. If the head will eventually crack put the 91 on.

Don't forget to drill and tape for the coolant sensor on the rear of the '00 cylinder head.

Th reason why he is selling the engine is because the Jeep was hit. I went to hear it run before it was pulled out. It ran prefect. I went to Autozone and had them pull out the intake gaskets for th 91 and th 00 and they are virtually the same. I didn't know about th water sensor in th head. I assume it is for th computer. I think i will Keep the 00 head and look for a spare head in th mean time.

IIRC, 1/8"-NPT.

Call your favorite parts house and ask them to pull one off the shelf and confirm the size.

It will take some time and a lot of patience but it isn't impossible.
