I read somewhere that you can switch on/off 50 times to put out the light.

Will this really work? Or just wear out the switch prematurely?

Try disconnecting the pos. bat cable and touch it to the engine block for 30sec. But I am thinking it will throw a code again later. Codes are started over after 50 starts, I believe.

Almost any parts store has a code reader as a loaner, just borrow it for 5 minutes to read and reset the codes and fix the issue before it turns on again.

True story, I've used said scanner to do my cars then I just bought one. Also I've heard to never ever ever touch the pos and neg terminals together, something about frying compacters off the pcm.

Yeah connecting + and - is a bad idea, sometime you can reset the PCM by pulling the fuse with the ignition on and leaving it out for 10 seconds, but a code scanner is the best way to go, then you know why it threw a code too.

disconnect the negative battery terminal for 10 mins then reconnect start a couple of times over the course of the day till the computer readjusts it self

ive just disconnected the battery, say...half an hour. u know, disconnected it, went in the house had lunch n came back, it dumps the code memory, but if its a persistant prob itll come back...thats when that code reader from autozone comes in handy

I have used the + and the - for 30 seconds on many vehicles and never had a computer problem works every time

depending on what year you have... 96 and older after youve fixed the problem causing it to turn on the light will turn off after 50 key on/off cylces. heres a link on how to read the codes and what not http://go.jeep-xj.info/HowtoECUcodes.htm

to clear codes disconnect the battery for thirty sec's to reset the ecm disconnect the neg and pos leads and touch them together.

I'll buy the story about touching the 2 together AFTER they have been disconnected, I had a blazer that the codes cleared when I pulled the computer fuse. I say just go to the parts store. And yeah I know from experience that 96's will clear the codes on their own, mine does it instantly (had an issue with the temp sensor for the aux fan being disconnected while I was trying to figure out a gauge issue).

OBD1 only need to disconnect the battery or pull the fuse and push and hold the brake pedel for 20 sec or so to discharge the compasitors in the pcm, OBD2 requires a code scanner 50 key cycles is going to be pretty worthless with out finding the problem.
