Default How to bypass powersteering??

Hey guys, first thread here, and sadly its not to celebrate my jeep but instead to figure out how to get it running again!

the power steering pump pulley came off the power steering pump, dislodging my serpentine belt, and causing my coolant to get a lot of back pressure and leak out the lid.

my truck is sitting about 3 miles away at a bridgestone tire shop, and i need to get it home so i can fix it.

my question is does anybody know if i can just get a shorter belt, and run it without the power steering pump so i can just get home and not get my truck towed. if so what size belt would i need? an even more awesome answer would be the part number of said belt! haha

please, help me get my cherokee home

Many auto parts stores can loan or rent you a tool to reinstall the pulley when you get a new belt and if you're careful, you can put the pulley back on without pulling the pump. Back off the tension adjustment and put on a new belt.

Sounds like the pulley wasn't put on all the way so be sure you get it pressed on flush with the shaft.

I can just press the pulley back onto the shaft?? in that case im going to reuse my belt because its only slightly worn on one side from working its way off the pulley, and rent the tool, and that should get me the 3 miles home untill i can fix it for real.
i figure while im doing work on the steering, i might as well pull a durango box, and a zj tie rod and drag link from the pick a part

If it's 3 miles with no stops, just start it and drive it home... but be quick about it. It will just barely be at operating temp when you get 3 miles away (assuming NO traffic lights).

Otherwise, push the pulley back on with the tool and run the old belt.
