We were trying to install a new headlamp and tried connecting the wires to the running light and ended up cutting all the wires. Now the running light won't turn on , but the other works fine. Any ideas on how to fix this?

A 1988 wouldn't have running lights (lights that are always one when the Jeep is running). The headlight assembly houses the low and high beams in one sealed unit.

If you somehow cut the wires that lead to the connector on the adjusting bracket or some such, then you can either use double end butt joints or add more wire or solder the wiring together again. You may be able to buy a new connector with longer wires on it to more easily reattach the wires.

Many posters on this forum recommend changing the harness to a style of harness with relays at the headlights so that minimal voltage/power goes to the switch inside of the cab. This would be a perfect opportunity for that. I prefer to keep as stock as possible, though.

Also, I like to replace headlights, side markers, brake lights, et cetera in tandem. They should fail within a close span of use together and the small bulbs can be kept in the glove box as spares easily.
