If it's got a solid motor/trans it'll pull 'em w/stock gears but you'll notice acceleration performance lose even at 31's if only that it takes more throttle for the same rate of acceleration. But as you get into 32's and 33's you will start to feel a lose of torque. 4.56's will give you a nearly stock feel w/33's.

Technically... you COULD go as big as you want and never regear...
But that would be the basic definition of suck.....
I'm riding on 33's with plain old 3.55's... Not my definition of fun, but I live in corn country and my Jeep is not my DD... I can make 55 with it, but I need to REALLY lay on the throttle to get up hills and not slow to a crawl...
If I was going to drive it all the time, I would step up to a 4.56...
But I'm not dropping that kind of money on a D-35....

I ran 3.55's with 33's for over a year.
It sucked. But I never drove it stock, so I guess I wouldn't know how bad it sucked.
It now has 4.10's and 33's.
It sucks less, but it's an XJ, not a racecar. 4.88's would be fun, but I get the best mpg I think I'll get with 4.10's for a lifted cinder block on big tires.
