hood release cable

hood release cable
so i went to pop the hood today so i could check the battery connections. and the hood release cable broke off in my hand. So, how the hell am i gonna get the hood open to replace the cable? i read something about having to take the headlights out. is there and easier way to do it?

Grab the broken cable with some vice grips and give it a pull. If it is inside the plastic housing, just cut the housing off enough to get at the cable.

finally got around to it today. got a vise grip on what was left of the cable and it popped right open. now i just gotta get a new cable.

Just bumping this because I had the hood open earlier this morning, tried closing it but wouldn't latch down, played with the hood release handle, handle came right out of the kickpanel, and I looked at the frayed bit of cable on the end while saying "oh ****". I used a screwdriver to manually engage the hood latches, but I hope I don't have to get back in there any time soon.
