High Speed Overheating
I'm sure that this is the problem. I went up to Walker Valley from where I live which is about 5 hours give or take away. I normally cruise at around 60-65 mph on the freeway and that seems fine. On the way home I was pushing 75 sometimes and it was heating up. If I slowed down to 60-68 then it was fine, but as soon as I kicked it up a notch then it started heating up again. It would climb fast too. What could it be? It has a new 195 thermostat and a new water pump and fluid.

It should be around $150 maybe a little more for the CSF 3 row and it does have the tranny cooler built in like the factory unit. I would do the water pump too while you have it drained, like $35 at AZ. That should fix you right up.

just a thought guys, you both have a similar problem but its rare to clog a rad unless you're running ditch water in it. you may want to check your fan clutch, if the clutch is going bad, at higher speeds the fan will acctually slow down do to wind through the front.

At that fast thought - your fan is really just a decoration - i replaced my mech fan on my old dodge durango with an electric fan and at anything over 35 mph I used the fan off. Also, removing the electric fan should does give the engine more power (i felt it with my durango!) I am thinking about doing it with my Jeep too

I have a brand new clutch fan, fan shroud, water pump, thermostat, coolant, Heater control valve, radiator cap. All thats left seems to be the radiator? Or my temp sensor for the gauge is wacky. It does wiggle a bit.

On another note as well. I bought a motor that was sitting in a guys heated garage for a couple years covered up. Maybe stuff dried up inside and flaked off during the initial install that I did.

Hey guys could this have been my problem? It was in the right position when I first seen it but when I tried to take the plug off it broke right off. It was already very loose since I put the newer motor in. By the way this is the temp sending unit for the gauge on the back of the head.

well from the looks of it i would say that might be the issue. i had some similar issues with my 96. everything checked out and looked good, so i cut some engine compartment (louvers) in. with out doing a lot of research they helped but they looked like hell. that being said maybe some real louvers would help. i am getting a set from runcool for my 91 to help vent the engine compartment.

Didn't work. So I went to a radiator shop and they told me that the cherokees are prone to clogging since they have a small radiator, and the shape its in is not suitable. SO, I guess its time for a radiator. He quoted me a new stock replacement for under 125 bucks and a new 3 core for just over 200 bucks. I will let you know if this fixes the problem, and if it doesn't I may run it off a cliff in frustration!
