Default Need some help with a lift

Ok I am getting ready to buy my first XJ. I am wanting to make this into a Daily Driver/Hunting Jeep. So needless to say I don't want a lift that will make me Pee blood. On the other hand I want to run 33" tires.

So looking around on the internet I found the Rough Country web site, WOW what a great dea! 6.5 inch lift for $899 dollars. So I have read mixed reviews on thier lifts. So long story short. This lift is the right price but is it a good lift. Please help me weigh the pros and cons on what to get. Thanks for the imputs.

i got the 3" rough country and i have no problems with them. My friends run/ran there lifts and had no problems. but my question to you in if your building a daily driver why so big? dont get me wrong its a nice set up and i would love to do it.

Yeah Slow is right that is a bit tall for a DD. You might be better off with something about at the 3" range. You can go for the 6.5" but that will require you doing several things that are a bit expensive to keep it as a DD. SYE and Re-gear to name a couple.

At 6.5" of lift your ride will be crap, both on and off road, unless you upgrade to Long Arms. Short arms at 6.5 will bring the suck!!

Keep in mind that lifting a rig and installing big rubber requires a whole lot more than just a change in elevation. If you already know this, sorry. Maybe someone else reading this doesn't.

A few things that will need to be addressed to make a capable and safe DD/Trail capable rig
New Shocks (correct compressed and extended length)
Extended brake lines
Correct steering geometry
Slip-Yoke Eliminator
Correct driveline angles
Lower (numerically higher) gears in both axles
Speedometer correction
Body modifications
Adequate armor (RockSliders/skid plates)

I'm sure I left some stuff off, but you get the picture.

Basically I'm saying that a $900 lift kit is only one piece of the puzzle.

The reason for such a large lift is because there are alot of mud hole on the road to our lease and I really like the look of the taller Cherokee. I was under the impression that with 33" tires I would be good with the stock gears in the 4.0L. I figured that I would have to get the SYE and probably get a steering dampner but does R/C's lift not come with all the drive line stuff? On their web site it said that you could fit 33" with no aditional body work. If I am completely off my rocker let me know. I am trying to learn from you guys mistakes and successes. So please give me the "Idiot" version. Thanks

you could run the RC 4.5 and just trim up your fenders a little and clear 33's im sure...

but the 6.5 is wayyy to big for everyday driver...IMHO thats just insane...but if thats what you want go for it...

Navy I don't think any company's kits come with a SYE in them. I have been wrong before but think I am right on this one.

6.5 on a daily drive is insane. AND EXPENSIVE...

go 3-4.5 on a daily driver. If it is not enough for you then it is easier to upgrade in the future but start small so you can get a feel of everything that happens when you raise a vehicle. Just a small 3 in rough country lift change my Jeep ALOT.

Wow...the more I read about people and their lift kits, the more I think I got a deal and a half. 3" Rough Country lift delivered for $200. Add another $150 for my new shocks and Damn! All done for under 4 bills. I love eBay!
