Ran out of gas tonight. Had to call someone to put about 2 gallons in. It started fine then sputtered and died. Now that is all it does! I think it is my fuel pump but am hoping someone can tell me it is something easy.

Unfortunately you are getting a tow When it gets dropped off try to cycle the key from on to off a couple of times then try to start it. That may work provided you can hear the pump running

I did that a bunch of times. It would run for a minute then sputter and diie.

I'm having quite the same problem in my rig. I never let fuel level go below 1/4 tank when I'm running to fuel station and add at least 5-10 gallons more.

My rig runs good, but when driving, fuel pump suddenly stop and engine stalls. Once I stop the vehicle, wait for about 30 seconds to a minute and then engine start and run good. Sometimes the problem repeat a couple of times and more, sometimes not.

I'm checking the fuel pump wire harness tomorrow, but I'll appreciate if someone can give me a tip about what could be this problem.

The old "random engine stalling" sounds more like a possible CPS (crankshaft position sensor) issue which could be the case, not the fuel pump. Fuelpumps tend to either work or not work, and fuel related issue could be debris from the tank in the system, however sounds less likely.

Intermittent stalling (like the random occuring in your case) appears more to be related to an electrical problem and the CPS could very well be involved in this. I had the same issue, replacing CPS (and MAP in the same go) solved the issue. Other possible causes are plenty, others will have more advice on that

Junk in the tank could have plugged the filter, that's honestly where I'd go first

OK its a 99 , possible junk in the tank that has now clogged the fuel pump in the tank.. you will need to check fuel flow not pressue to make sure it is getting enough fuel up to the injectors.. if not then the pump is most likely bad.. Here is one thing to try.. take a rubber malley and hit the bottom of the fuel tank a few time under where the fuel pump is and then try to start it. If it starts and runs then you know junk was in the prefilter and you have temportary knocked some of it out.. Not a permanet fix by any means.. Sometimes this works sometimes is doesn't but worth a try to pin point a fuel pump problem.. A long time ago when I had no money I had to bang on the bottom of the tank for a while until I could get $ to replace the fuel pump.. If its not the pump and you have confirmed that it delivers the required amount of fuel next check the regulator it could have gotton some junk in it and not working propertly, but that is not likely.. but does happen occasionly. Replacing the fuel pump is not a hard job just involved, I would not put more then 5 or 6 gallons in the tank until you have ruled out the pump. As if it is the pump and the tank is full it will weight about 200 lbs heaver with the fuel.. just a word to the wise. when I worked in a garage we charged extra when the tank was full.. Just saying... Hope this hepls.. Oh and one other thing to try is try to start it while someone sprays or slowly pours fuel directly down the throtle body, if it will keep running then I bote fuel pump.. let us know how it comes out... If you replace the fuel pump don't forget the fuel filter.

uhhh wow that sound like mine, except it was only very occasionally since i bought it but gotten alot worse in the last 6 months. mines only when hot after driving too. yes ive replaced cps next is fuel pump def

If certenly sounds as though you've got a fuel pump issue or at least jumk in the tank.. Or possibly a regulator issue,though thoes ususlly don't show up after it gets running.. Bad regulators usually allow the fuel to drain back in the tank wihen not running making the engine hard to start.
Another off the wall issue when the enging stalls after getting warmed up is a clogged exhaust system. such as a cat that is is clogged, or a muffler, that is is clogged or an exhaust pipe that has gotten cruched or had a tail pipe blister on the inside and clogged or slowed down the exhaust so much that it would kill the engine..That was on an 88 Caddy that I owned, i was ready to run it off a cliff before the muffler went bad and while replacing the muffler found the blisted pipe. replaced it and the car ran like new for another 50000 miles before I sold it..

Before you go spend a bunch of king start little like the fuel filter, and if it does end up being the fuel pump do NOT get an airtex pump! They are know widely to fail often.
