Hello there Jeep friends! I'm having some trouble with my '99 XJ. Long story short, the hard brake line going to the front driver's side broke as I was trying to replace the soft line to the caliper. So I tried my hand at making my own replacement line. It wasn't easy, but I got something to fit. Unfortunately when I went to bleed the line, it was leaking at the distribution block next to the master cylinder where I replaced the line. After some inspection, it looks like I cross threaded the block and the threads are all pooped up. So my questions are:

1) Where can I buy this block? I can't seem to find it online anywhere

2) If I replace that block, will I have to bleed all 4 lines? I ask this because I have another issue right now where the lug nuts on all 3 other wheels are too tight, and no matter what I do I cannot get them to loosen and come off. I plan on driving it to a tire shop down the road to have them try and get the lug nuts off. So if I have to bleed 4 wheels, I don't even know how I'd be able to do it.

Since you only repaired one line you may only have to bleed it.

If it does, it's called a proportioning valve. Search that and you'll have better results.

BTW, if replacing, I would bleed all 4 wheels, and plug the master so you won't have to bench bleed that.

I think you are talking about the proportioning valve. You should be able to buy those at multiple places online or in a junk yard.

Yes you'll need to bleed all 4 lines. You also don't need to take the wheels off to do them. You can reach the bleeders if you crawl under.

Haha, thanks for all the quick responses guys! I'm almost considering just replacing the master cylinder anyway while I'm in there. I imagine it's the original from '99 and now is as good of a time as any to replace it I suppose.

Maybe just me but when something isn't working right I replace the bad part/parts only to get things working again.

That's probably good advice. Otherwise, this is how I end up with a 6 month project instead of a quick fix!

You can always replace the MC and other parts later once you get things working correctly.

Yup, just ordered a new proportioning valve and just ordered a pre-bent brake line for the driver's side since it was $6!

Buy a set of flare nut wrenches for taking the lines loose from the prop valve. Those nuts that slide up and down the line are called flare nuts (the end of the line is flared and it's a nut). They are easy to strip.

Here's a thought. If you want replace parts later on do the rear disc upgrade. Talk about an improvement.

I would absolutely love to get rear disc brakes. Drum brakes are the worst!
