here's what ya need to do to help it.. Pull the valve cover and clean it thoroughly, clean all the parts udner the cover with some brake cleaner and get some of the gunk out of top area of the head. Then you need to replace you CCV valve elbows and the hoses attached to them. replace valve cover using a good gasket. This will help but won't prevent blow by completely.

Dude, blow by oil in the Air Box is just one of those things you deal with when you own a Jeep 4.0. Do ALL of the things that OKC told you to do. This will minimize the oil in your air filter but, not stop it all together. Trust me, when I say, your motor most likely isn't anywhere near blowing on you.
Now, onto the GC 4.0 that you're looking at. Start by asking the junkyard owner was the motor running when pulled? Will he offer any kind of a waaranty with it? If he says I don't know and no to these questions, tell him he can keep it. Now if he can says it ran good when pulled and backs that with a warranty and if he can tell you how many miles it has on it, I'd strongly consider buying it for $400. That's a great deal for a decent running 4.0 with low miles.

i just got this jeep few months ago...noticed oil in air box didnt think much of it it does have 175,000 miles on it but runs strong....no big oil leaks......the motor is for sale of craigs list.....i was just curious if there was anything major i should look for other than trusting the guys word when he says it runs great....I JUST HOPE IT HAS THE MAIN WIRE HARNESS> AND HOPE MOST ALL OF THE STUFF IS THE SAME LIKE VACUM LINES AND STUFF

I have the same problem on my 89. I've also been worried about it, but this website seems to explain a lot.

on the not of my blow by....that link does explain alot but my vent tube on top of valve cover has moisture coming through it not so much oil...and moisture in tail pipe. i know most 4.0 s have minor blosw by but constant moisture? and my oil is clean?
