Default Heater valve fix

So, I wasn't getting much heat outta my 1990. Checked the heater valve and it was actuating properly BUT it was only opening a crack! Bent arm as shown so the valve actually opens fully and viola, heat!

Heater valve with bent arm.

Bypass it and you'll never have to deal with it again.

And, it won't be there to suddenly disintegrate and spew all your coolant out in some inopportune location, leaving you stranded.

I prefer working on my Jeeps in the garage rather than along side the road or trail.

So it's not needed for the A/C to work efficiently? That's the only reason I didn't just eliminate it.

I agree with the others. Just remove it and by-pass it and you wont have to worry about that part breaking again.
Just make sure to plug off the vacuum hose to it.

I'm sure you guys read my story about them. Burned the crap outta me when it disintegrated while doing an oil change on a nicely warmed up engine.

Yeah, I had the same thing happen to me. That's why I wouldn't ever recommend to replace one.

210* coolant in the face is not fun.

Here's another thought on HCVs.

All spring/summer/fall, depending where you live, coolant stays stagnant in the heater core ............until winter.

They SUCK!!!
My Tahoe has that set up. When I bought it from my brother he just had the heater core replace the year before and the first time I had to use the heater the core sprang a leak.

It seems to me the couple of times I did that I had no more control over the temp of my heat. I could adjust the fan to blow more or less but the heat was always just at it's hottest. Or did I miss something?

Temperature is controlled through your blend door in the box. Weird that eliminating your HCV would cause this.
