Question Wonky Gauge Cluster!

Hey, everyone! I'm back with more a question then problem, I suppose. First off, I got the flashers fixed in my '93 (Thanks to F1Addict and everyone that helped!).

I've swapped in a REAL gauge cluster in place of the idiot lights, and all but the coolant temp work (got an aftermarket gauge for that right now). Voltage reads right 'bout 14, gas gauge is pretty accurate and oil pressure looks good. I DO need to find a new piece the sender screws into (please enlighten me with a name) or cap off the fitting coming out of it for a mechanical gauge we installed long ago.

My only actual problem with the cluster is that the speedo sometimes won't come up when accelerating from a complete stop. Works fine if I roll through a stop sigh, but at a red light it gets stuck at 0. If I tap the plastic cover, it jumps up to the speed just fine. What might cause this? It's an electrical cluster, if that helps.

Did the donor cluster come from a crash vehicle? Strange things can happen when one slams in to a tree at 80 mph.

No, it looked to be in really good shape aside from a big dent in the passenger front door. Looks like someone hit it with a hammer....Pretty clean inside and out!

Well I guess I don't have a good answer for you then, any chance of swapping it for another one? You probably don't want to fool around with the gauge because they are incredibly fragile.

I might grab another while I'm out there. I just had an idea what it might be, but I'm not sure....I have a problem with my negative cable coming off the battery sometimes because the terminal has been cleaned a lot so it's smaller then it should be. Could that loose connection cause it to happen? None of the other gauges are affected, or at least that I've noticed.

Well, it hasn't acted up for a little while now, so I'm assuming it sorted itself out. It wasn't a huge deal anyway, just gotta tap the cluster sometimes. Seems it might've been not-so-great connections at the battery....My negative cable connector is getting to the point it needs replaced since it tends to move around on the post, even fully tightened.

If it got too loose, I'd lose all power after shutting the Jeep down and the lights would flicker a bit of it got loose while driving. I think the cluster acting up was related to that.
