Heater control valve routing question
I have been converting my 88 cherokee closed cooling system to an open system for a 91+ cherokee, and i have a question about how to properly hook up the hoses to the heater control valve...
here is how i have it set up:
Do i have them hooked in right spots?
and also can i use these wires for splicing in a toggle to manually turn on the elec. fan when i want to? i believe they went to the temp sensor in the rad. :
the grey wire has a black tracer and the yellow one is solid.

Toss the valve in the trash, you don't need one.
my son's was leaking so we pulled it a bout 2 weeks ago. No problems at all.
Keep in mind that late model XJ's never had them either.
Your Blend Door will prevent air from passing through the heater core so there's no need to be concerned about excess heat in the cab.

ok first off i just wanted to know if i hooked the valve up right... i'm going to use it untill i have problems with it... no i do not have a sensor in the radiator, not paying 20$ for something that doesnt kick my fan on untill it's too late, thats why i want to make a toggle... ive already spent enough money that i dont have on this project, so i will not be eliminating the heater valve just to buy more hose. Thanks

Don't get your knickers in knot.
There's no need to buy new hoses. 2 hose repair kits (one 5/8", one 3/4") will set ya back about $5 at Advance auto.
So this should tell you that the hoses are 2 different sizes znd can only be installed one way. 5/8" hoses go on the 5/8" nipples.

if i remember right the valve has different size nipples on it so if you put the small hose on the small nipple and the same with the big really cant go wrong and with the wire that looks like the plug use a jumper wire and see if the fan comes on

EDIT: also, the coolant temp sensor is on the t-stat housing on open systems, not in radiator, so u might not have any signal being sent to e-fan to turn it on, so u may want to snag a newer-style t-stat housing & route/splice into harness in pic!

ok i must have had a rope smokin brain fart... i had the heat thermostat on cold (der < little slow sometimes) blower motor doesnt need to be on for it to open correct? just needs to be set to hot? (edit) thanks for the info kenny didnt get your post till after i made this one do you have a pic of how your toggle is set up? i dont see the need to buy the new thermo housing and switch if a can just set it up to toggle when i want it and when i dont the a/c will run it when it needs it. i may set it up like that at a later date when i get more money to throw at the pit.

after looking at my buddies 91 with an open cooling system stock; ive realised that i had the hoses hooked up backward. ive edited my original pic of the hcv to reflect this
