Heater/ AC switch wires
The connector to my main heater /AC switch is burned and melted. I guess this is why when I put new fuses in for it and turn it on they POP. I jumped a wire from the fuse box to the yellow/brown power wire and the same thing happend . Any IDEAS on how to get the AC / heat to work right?????

I just tryed another switch ,and it pops the fuse too. I might try to trace all of the wires and see if some thing is messed up some place. Now that I have a new windshield in , I need the AC to work in 104 degrees Baltimore HEAT. Thanks I am open to all tricks and ideals to get it working.

I got deeper in to it this morning, to find that a CRITTER was living in the heater box under the passenger side . It made a nest on top of the heater relay and shorted it out. I am heading to the boneyard for a harness and relay and see if that fixes it.

Back from the bone yard now, whats the deal with the brown plastic 4 wire connectors to the heater switch on these rigs. I tore into 4 XJs just to find 1 connector that was not burnt . I got 2 harnesses and a heater relay. So I will be back with a report later.

Well that little trick of jumping in a new harness did not work. It still poped the fuse and the relay you can see from the pic ,burned the e tape I wrapped around it. I am going to yank the fuse box and see if any thing is wacked out behind it. Then yank the blower motor out to see if the critter that used to live there built a nest that wont let the blower turn ,so it just pops the fuse from the strain its on.

Sorry I didn't know you hadn't tested to see if the blower motor was bad or not. It's easy to remove though. Or just run jumper wires straight to the blower motor and check it.

That was the PROBLEM. The Critter made a nest in the blower fan, thats why the fuses kept blowing. Its all fixed now and working fine.I will add some R134 it seems low.I will need a new fan too. Is there a better blower motor that I can get?

I had a 98 Dodge Avenger that I noticed the blower fan was extra noisy, lived with it for about 9 months or so and finally took it down, and my friend said as he was working taking it out i probably had a mouse in there....true enough, dead mouse inside the wheel thingy.....i dont think he lived very long when the fan first turned on....lol

haha, those little plugs are hard to find, went to 2 pull a parts and pulled the only five i could find (all the others had already been jacked) you need to check the plug on the other side of the heater/ac control if you havent already, both of those two were melted all to crap in mine.....grab as many as you can of those little things because the boneyards the only place i can find them and i dont know what theyre called so i cant get new ones s

Heater/AC Switch plug
Does anybody know if you can find the infamous melted plug anywhere online? And what it is called? It's the brown plug with the 4 wires that goes to the switch. I went to 4 junk yards in my area yesterday to find one and they were all melted or already snagged. I have a 94 xj sport.
Any help would be appreciated, I'm out of junkyard options.
Thanks

Some folks have deleted the plastic connector altogether and went with new wire terminals only. See pic.
The terminals are Delphi/Packard Type 56, female, open barrel, .250" blade, 12 gauge wire, terminals. To properly install them you will need a special crimper, but you can be a little creative crimping the open barrel.
There are plenty vendors selling these terminals, including Evilbay.
Here's a pic showing which terminal is which, and what color wire goes where on the blower speed switch.
Recommend installing a new blower speed switch.
