Default Headlights don't turn off?

The past two nights I've noticed that my headlights remain on after I've pushed in the plunger switch to shut them off.

The fix so far is to repeatedly pull out/push in the switch until they shut off. I hear a relay clicking when they finally turn off.

Where does the problem most likely lie? The switch or the relay or some connection that needs cleaned? I'd like to fix em ASAP.

My guess is the switch is bad.

dont have the delay headlight do you? my 89s headlights would stay on for 45 seconds if you shut the lights off after you turned the jeep off. It made me really mad but all i had to do was find and pull the fuse to make it go away.

if you don't then I second the bad switch idea.

does it happen when you shut down the engine, then turn off the lights? try turning off the lights first, then shutting down the engine. My 2000 sport has it...they are courtesy lights. they stay on for a bit to help you get to your front door or whatever when its dark out. i usually just hit my lights off first, then kill the engine, that way they dont stay on (i park right next to my door).

ah, you beat me to it ^

Correct me if I'm wrong, but as the computer guys like to say, "It's a feature, not a bug." There's a headlight delay function that keeps the lights on for a minute or something like that - however, if the relay's bad, they might stay on longer than that.

I know that feature was in place on a friend's old '88, and I don't believe they changed much after that...

EDIT: I see everyone else has chimed in with about the same answer - my guess is it may not actually be broken!

That could be.. I just got the thing.. first chrysler product, yadda yadda.

I'm not used to all these fancy things like remote door locks, power windows, or headlights that care about my wellbeing.

Edit:// Yeah, that's what it was. Carry on. I'm just an idiot.
