Has Anyone Replace There Gauges With Aftermarket???
Has anyone on here replaced there stock gauges with aftermarket gauges like Autometer. I want to replace mine and make a custom gauge cluster and wondering if anyone else has done so too.

I have also thought about this and do not believe it would be that hard and am quite suprised someone else hasnt already done it. It can get expensive though. I was going to use it as a fix for my stock gauges not working.

wouldn't be to hard ....auto meter makes lots of gauges...My buddy who had dummy lights replaced his coolant and oil pressure lights with gauges...
If I was doing the whole dash cluster I would use a piece of sheet metal and fab it to fit then mount the new gauges...Also is it truly worth the work..would look cool as hell but lots of work..

You could also do them one of two ways. Mounted infront of the gauge panel with the guage bezels showing or behind the panel with only the faces showing. Similar to this...

And yes I know those arent Cherokees, but they are 73-87 Chevy trucks which is my other passion and I knew where to get the pics as examples.

I have custom gauges in my CJ7.
As for the XJ...Putting in an autometer water temp and oil pressure gauge when I have time. Not really all that difficult really. Just screw in sensors and run wire.

yup..... drilled pilots and used hole saws...
i made a cardboard template first and traced it onto the diamond plate then cut it out with a fine tooth blade on my jigsaw and dressed the edges wth a file
i also cut out cardboard circles the same size as the gauges so i could play around with different spacings and patterns to see what i liked
was a fun project
i put colored LEDs in it too for turn indicators high beams and 4X4 lock after the pic was taken
