OK, so it's a press fit. A vise with a punch or other suitable tool will certainly work better than beating it on the pavement!

keep in mind, that was my plastic gear shaft (the one circled) I didn't get the wiper arm shaft out. Also, it wasn't to hard pressed in there, a couple turns of the vice and it came out easily, but with a POP of course.

Being that im gonna get a new wiper motor, I may just go ahead and pull it back out and see if I can press the wiper arm shaft out so you guys can learn off of it.

I'll have to see what I can do with it. I'd also like to figure out the wiring on the connector so the motor can be tested without having to pull off the plastic panel inside the hatch to hook it up. (That plastic panel already has a crack in it, came that way when I bought the vehicle.)

Well folks, good luck with the surgeries on those non-serviceable units. Most ppl would spend 40 for used or 80 for a new one. But if you can't perform electro-mechanical miracles with that unit, I would suggest a retrofit solution such as the one below.

Good luck!

damn, didn't think about the old string through window idea. Might have to fab that idea up as a temporary solution. Lol. Just kidding,

Hey, that does look like a great solution! Guess I lucked out, got my perfectly good used one for $25 including the plastic bezel and mounting hardware. (Wiper arm too, but the nozzle was busted on that.) I'm just interested to see if it is possible to do anything with the failed one aside from using it as a blunt instrument.

My cost for a reman $45 at O'Reilly's.

Money well spent in my opinion.

On my Jag the drivers side gear stripped out. I added a link to the passenger side, gave myself a pat on the back, worked great! I suppose I could have guessed that would strip out the right side soon, as well.

Originally I wasn't going to even bother fixing it, but the fact that the rear wiper was the only thing on the entire vehicle that didn't work just ate away at me until I was motivated to do something about it!

93XJeeper, when you opened your motor, were you able to spin the gear freely? Mine is stuck.
I don't get how you were able to remove the large gear without removing the wiper arm shaft.
Would that hinging elbow part get in the way, since it's attached to the wiper arm shaft still in place?

I can order a used motor, but I would like to get my original one working, if it's just some rusty shaft.
If the shaft is supposed to pop out towards the viewer, next step I might try to put it into a vice, if I can find one.

I was never able to get the gear out. Only the shaft. But I would think that the remaining shafts would come out the same way.
