I really wanna say go to a U-haul store they got all kinds of hitch supplies. That is where I bought my stuff for my Jeep Commander. You will wire it to the rear drivers side tail light on the cherokee. HTH

Mudd some of the later XJs like yours have a "T" connector that just plugs in and you dont need anything wired in. They had some on display at my local TSC.

Don't know on the rear wiring harness that runs from left tail light to the right. Thats the way mine on my pickup plugs in. Just unplug the connection and plug in the trailer pack into either side of the "T" connector.

I got the T Connector for my 2000 cherokee, and it was really easy to put in. It just goes right in place behind the panel that is behind the spare tire (on the left side for me) I know 4WD hardware has them, and i think even Auto Zone has them.

You got yours from 4wd? When you connect a trailer plug, does the plug go through the rear door to the interior or does the plug connect outside?

Mine plugged into my taillight wires and it is in the interior and comes out through the tailgate. Got it from Advance. It was very easy to hook up.

Mine runs through the tailgate also, its nice to keep in the hatch when not using it. I didn't get mine from 4WD hardware but through ebay, and when i went and ordered my lift through 4WD hardware. i saw they had them.
