and not just the outside temps either. i finally took the camo beast to get inspected yesterday. now just need registration to drive it on the road. during that trip, engine temperature decided to climb. got home, realized the fan clutch is shot. also plan on replacing the thermostat while I'm at it. any specific brand y'all suggest on the fan clutch? also, i see way too many thermostats available. from 160* up to 195*. any suggestions on them? remember, i live in south texas. where the temperatures get up to a lovely 115*+ during the summer time. i know the water pump was moving fluid some since i saw little returns to the tank, but is there a better one to go to? i don't mind spending some money on this stuff, as you can see. i just don't want to be out on the ranch and some cheap part that could have been replaced for a decent price, wasn't.

Nobody? I guess I will just hit up AZ and get there top brand. Any body ever heard of, or used, waterwetter? It's a cooling system additive that appears to help cool better.

Finally got to dive in to pull the thermostat. Guess what?!? Nothing there. Wth?!? So I'm narrowing down to the water pump or clogged radiator. Probably gonna pull the water pump tomorrow to make sure it's all in one piece.

Water wetter is used in racing where anti freeze isn't allowed. Allows water to "stick" to metal surfaces better transfering more heat. Not even sure if it's compatable with antifreeze. Might not raise boiling point either.

What he said, and you need to do a system flush several times. Then replace the pump and a new radiator <$100 at AutoZone they work fine. Check the fan clutch also to see if it is good.

well i drained the coolant. i think the previous owner put fresh fluid in it.
i also thought the fan clutch might have been bad, but the new one i purchased, seems to be about the same. will probably return it. you're saying az has the radiator? or should i look around for another one? maybe online? FYI, this is not a dd or anything, just gonna be a back and forth to the ranch and so on. so if i have to wait for parts, its nothing new. i appreciate the help guys.

91 used an open cooling system, the renix cherokees used closed and they used different radiator styles. I converted to an open system on my 87 so i didnt have to bother with "burping" the system as much. Make sure you get the correct radiator or else it wont be a direct replacement.

I bought water wetter last week and started using it about 4 days ago, it is compatible with antifreeze. I haven't got the chance to drive it since I put it in, but I had a friend use it in his Cherokee and he said it helped..... he dropped about 5 degrees not bad for 10 bucks.
