Default fuel pump noise

I have a 97 with 176,000 on it, to my knowledge the fuel pump has never been done and I'm noticing when I walk behind the it while its running I can hear a high whining noise. I'm wondering how long the fuel pumps usually last on these and if I should be preparing to replace it.

Don't know if this is related but when I turn it off i hear a trickling noise coming from the back, like gas falling back into the tank....?

its working... the trickling is probly a vaccum leak in the fuel system... means air is getting in and letting the fuel run back down to the tank instead of staying in the lines... bet you got a hard start also... this could be because of the check valve in the fuel pump... but they cost so much its not worth the trouble... just ride it till it dies...

I would start to put money aside so that when does die at least your not without the cash needed to get it back on the road. The micron filter on the bottom of the fuel pump module is more than likely 80 percent pluggled that is why it is humming so loud.

Actually when i start it i get a weird kind of growling, squeal kind of noise for a few seconds, only when its cold, I thought it was the starting staying engaged to long.
