You want good quality oil filters... Wix, Napa Gold, Purolator, Mobil One are all good ones. Avoid the cheap junk ones... cardboard belongs in the box..not the filter.
Also K&N air filters are some of the worst ones you can possibly run.. How do they flow so well??? Its because they don't stop any dust from entering your engine.

i've been fine with the purolator, or fram oil fiters. never used a k&n one though.
i have a k&n drop in filter, it will be replaced with something better like a real intake, when i have money that is.

I run a K&N air filter in the mountains and my jeep sees some harsh conditions. Works great. Minimal upkeep. If you need to worry about more arid environments I would heed the advice about dust, obviously someone has had issues.

Yeah puralator or wix for oil filters.. I agree stay as far from K&N air filters as you can. May as well go to the local drug store and buy cotton gauze and make your own cheaper. They flow better like whowey said beacuse they allow more particals to pass through. Sorry but IMHO you can't have extra air flow and proper filtering, it's one or the other not both. To allow for more air flow you must extend the pores to allow more air and particals to flow through which doesn't filter the small dust particals properly. To filter properly you must decrease the size of the pores which will restrict air flow to a slight degree.

Anyone who has run K&N for long periods of time needs to remove their intake manifold and take a look.. Also there is a reason they require oil to be added, if you didn't it wouldn't catch hardly any dirt particles.
