Default Extended Idle Switch?

They say "There are no stupid questions", Well this one is gonna be darn close!

My 88 had a Power switch that it was my understanding that it changed your shift points...

My 93 has this extended idle switch in it's place. OK, I understand that effects the Idle but why would I want to use it? Low speed crawling to keep the motor reved a little???

the ext. idle switch is for running high draw electronics (lights, computer etc..) and keeping the engine from overheating at extended idle periods, the switches were standard on police equipped jeeps.

Thanks, Makes since, This was a law inforcement veh of some sort and I haven't seen the switch on any other rigs in my MANY excursions to the Bone-yard.

I wish I could find a spotlight, antennas and light bar to replace the ones that were stripped off before I got it.
