Engine/transmission removal
Hello again, I got the motor out of my 98 and those upper rear bolts were a pain in the butt. Was wondering if I drop my tranny and assembled outside if I could put them back in as one unit or if the cross member would be in the way? Any help would be appreciated. Otherwise I think I will drill the firewall and see if I can't reach through with extensions to get those bolts back in.

I put a 98 in my 96 [both 4.0s]. When you put the new motor in put all but those 2 bolts in and snug them. Then drop the motor down below the motor mounts. That will free up about 2 to 3 inches. Also helps to remove the intake manifold. After that its pretty easy. It frees up a lot of room. Thats what I did and it worked great. I wouldnt drill holes in the firewall if your gonna wheel it. Easy to get water in the cab.
