Default Door hinge

The top pad that mounts to the body on the RH door of my XJ has come off. Does not look like it was welded. How was it attatched?

Take a pic so we can see exactly what it is..The hinge itself is welded to the pillar and would need to be welded back if that's what has come off..So snap a pic so we can see exactly what it is..

Body side of hinge is welded to the unibody on all XJs I have ever seen.

I have the same *****ty problem!!!!!!!!!
My drivers door bottom hinge looks like it was welded by Ray Charles!
If it wasn't messed with before I'd fix it but I have red doors in my parts pile.
Besides the door hitting the latch and dragging the door panel is getting on my last nerve.

Some jerk was too lazy to take the door off and weld the backside!!!!!!!!!

The hinge is welded in and then sealed.
This sealant is what messes up welding it.

Remove fender.
Remove hinge from door.
DO not grind any metal off the back. If you want to clean it up, wire wheel it.
The pieces of door pillar on the back of the hinge are a "KEY" that will allow you to orient the hinge back to its original location.

You doo want to sand/wire wheel all the factory sealant from around the hinge.
Then when everything is nice and clean, then you can weld it up.

Weld it up, across and down.
Spray paint any exposed metal.
Re-bolt hinge to door.
Test the door to make sure it closes properly. If not make necessary adjustments (Usually the in/out of door)

Re-install fender.
Clean up.
Have frothy beverage and enjoy the work you have done.
