I have a 94 Jeep cherokee 4.0 and i'm replacing the distributor in it. to replace the camshaft position sensor. And I put the rotor in the same place it was when I first took out the old broken distributor. but my question is do I have to compensate for how it turns the rotor that little bit clockwise because I put it in the exact same position as before but when lowering it in there it moved clockwise about from 12 to 2 o clock. 12 being directly facing the engine from viewing it on the passenger side. Any help is greatly appreciated thank you.

just put the engine at TDC and then drip in the dizzy so that the rotor is pointing at the No1 on the cap

also if anyone knows about the richporter distributors I am replacing it with one of these and am curious to how the rotor comes off. because I tried pulling it off and it woouldn't budge so does this mean that i'll have to replace that whole inner shaft on it or what's the deal?

how do i know when the engine is at TDC though? i'm looking in the chlton manual but i'm not finding anything.

TDC is when number one piston is all the way up with both intake and exhaust valves closed. you can pull number one spark plug and stick something in there, screw driver or whatever then turn over the engine by hand with socket and ratchet on the crank pully. until the piston is all the way up. normally you would have the dizzy in to verify the rotor is at number one but since you didnt put it at TDC before you pulled it you are going to have to find another way it verify your on the compression stroke and both valves are closed and your not on the exhaust or intake stroke. you could pull the valve cover and physically look at the valves, there may be an easier way try googling it

If you have any questions on anything, look it up on youtube before. it will help to understand it after you see it being done

does anyone have a better picture of the crankshaft pulley and the marks it describes on the timing chain cover in the article? It would help out insanely. because I'm trying to avoid taking the valve cover off.
