Default Disk Brake Basics -- Installation

The shop manual mentioned anti-rattle clips but there were no such clips when I took the brakes apart. There were clips in the parts kit, so here's my question:

How critical are the anti-rattle clips? Apparently whoever did my brakes before left them off. After trying to install the pads with the clips, I can see why. It would take three strong hands at least, maybe four, and I don't have that many available.

Maybe one of the old truck's many rattles were because of this but I never really noticed and the brakes worked fine. Thinking to leave them off. Looking here for opinion. Thanks.

XJ's are supposed to have rattle clips? I have only ever seen the clips that hold them to the caliper. Even when I installed my ebc pads and rotors along with new calipers I didn't have any rattle clips.
