Disc brakes....is it worth it?
on a scale of 1 to 10 would it be worth it to swap to disc brakes?
the idea was rattling around in my brain and wanted some insight/input on it

I've used disc brakes on my old 93 ford explorer that was rolling 35" tires and a ford 9 inch rear end... prior to the disc brakes (drums) ive had trouble stopping as quick as i wanted to, especially with all the water that would accumulate within the drums when wheelin... disc brakes dont hold water and quickly dissipate. im all for disc brakes if you dont hit heavy mud all the time

disk brakes are the ****. i have zj disks on my cherokee and the stopping power is alot better, and besides disk brakes are ten times easier to change.

What is the difficulty rating on a job like this, say from 1-10. 1 being an oil change and 10 being maybe an engine replacement? Just curious as I try to figure what I can afford and actually do myself.

I haven't done mine yet, but it's pretty simple when it comes down to it. I'd probably say a 4 would be a good rating. What you do it take off the wheels. Then, take off all the brake hardware. Take off the differential cover so you can release the axles. Pull the axles out and take off the backing plate. Reinstall the new backing plate. Put axles back in and and put the differential cover back on. Fill differential with fluid. Install new brakes and put the wheels back on. That's really all there is to it. And you have to bleed the brakes afterwards because you opened the system. There's a lot of writeups on how to do it. Search around and read up because I probably left some details out.

No worries about leaving something out, I will search it here on the forums. Once I dump this 98 F150 it will give me a little cash to put into the new toy and I think I can workout anything under a 4 or 5.

Most of your braking power comes from the front brakes. Drum brakes are more than sufficient for most uses, and I think 4 wheel discs is more of a "look at what I did" thing:

that post is about the kickdown cable adjustment for an auto trans. no mention of E brakes or brakes at all in the 4 pages.
unless im driving a toyota and the brakes and throttle are the same pedal
