Default Did the injector swap...and WOW!

I recently purchased a 2001 sport with 179,000 on it, stock 3.55's and 31's. After a couple of steady 12.5 mpg tanks, I started looking for options. The easiest thing I could find was the Neon/Stratus Injector swap. I heard anything from 1-5 MPG in the reviews, and was intregued. I figured even if I could gain 1mpg steadily, that it was worth it for the money in the long run. I was careful to note how I drove before and after the swap, a mixture of mostly 45-55mph country cruising, and daily commuter stop and go.

I pulled the Injectors at the yard, (4 out of a 98 Stratus, and 4 out of a 00 Stratus...both with the 2.4l) They are all Chrysler part no. 04669938. Be careful with the Dodge Neons with the 2.0l as opposed to the 2.4. Just because they are the same year, and they have similar looking injectors, doesn't mean they are the same PN. They are too short.

Long story short, I got new O-rings, Soaked the injectors in Seafoam, Opened them up with a 9v battery and backflushed them with some shop air, and installed them. I decided to add some Seafoam to the fuel tank at the same time as I did the swap, due to some carbon deposits that I saw in the intake. I am normally not one for Magical Do-all potions for 10 bucks a bottle, but I read alot of people got better gas mileage running it through.

I just topped off the tank tonight after driving for 87 Miles, and it took 5.107 Gallons. That works out to roughly 17 MPG! From 12.5! That's a gain of 4.5 mpg.

I tried to treat this swap as objectively and scientifically as possible. I would say that I drove the last 87 miles as carefully as I drove the previous 400, maybe even more spirited. I did do a couple 0-70 digs right off the bat to see if there were any performance gains. I did notice a little bit more pull on the top end after about 3500...maybe. I wouldn't call it much of a horsepower/torque gain if any. Nor would I say I had noticeably better throttle response...as some have observed.

For my money, this is the best swap I have ever done. I will post more results as soon as I run a full tank through it.

Increased mileage with no noticeable loss of performance = one great performance upgrade if you ask me!

Yeah, its an awesome upgrade, I started running 89 octane to gain even a couple more mpg's on top of the injectors.

I swapped out for Ford style injectors and noticed a small increase. I've had them for about a month, so the math is good. I originally got around 11-12 MPG and after the swap with the same driving habits I got 13.2 MPG. My last tank I drove it casually and got 15 MPG usually cruising around 1500 RPMs.

I only have 235s so the odometer reading isn't too much off. Besides, I'd rather know how many miles I can get on one tank as shown on the trip odometer. For example, it may say 200, but I'm really getting 225. Although, I'm actually getting higher mileage, I'm never going to do the math, so it's easier to judge how much farther I have to go on the tank by just looking at the trip odometer. Just my opinion, though. I may actually be getting an extra half MPG with 235s, but it doesn't matter too much.

i am currently running 33s with 3.55 gears and i am a nut hair short of 20% off on miles on the trip. so when my trip reads 200 i actually went 240. pretty big difference for me thats why i asked

Did you swap those injectors into a 4.0 i6 engine? Im sorry if this seems like a dumb question . I did not know if your newer jeep model had the same engine in it as my 91.

As far as I know this swap only works for the 99-01 with these specific injectors. You may be able to find something somewhere for your vehicle. I can't help you there.

I can understand all of you skeptics as I was one a few days ago. I am not correcting for larger tires, but as I understand it, that only messes with it 1/2 mpg or so. The measurements that I have taken were all on the stock odometer, with stock gears, and 31x10.5 Firestones. Draw your own conclusions.

I will post more results as soon as I run a full tank through it.
