Default Diagnosing a seep and broken off sensor

Before I replace my rad and flush my system, I want to make sure a small seep I have is okay to be left as is. The area behind my tstat housing is wet, but not dripping on the ground. Should I be expecting it to get worse and redo the gasket on the housing? The damp area looks to spread right up to where the sensor is, and is most noticeable on a lip a few inches below the valve cover. I am assuming it is coolant, not sure though.

Also I had a few posts about my terrible luck with the temp sensor on the back of my block and now I need to get the broken piece out. I attached, or tried to attach a pic of the hollow brass piece lodged in my block. I am not familiar with using an easy out, but will it have room to work without taking the valve cover off? Already had to do that once to get the new sensor in, before I broke it off that is.
