Default Dana 44 questions

I just acquired an 87 Cherokee. The rear axle appears to be a Dana 44 and is leaking from the gasket. What weight oil do I need and are 44's typically LSD's? I called Jeep but they could not answer my questions. Thanks.

Yep that's a 44. As of it being LSD. Only way to be certain is to take the cover off

You may want to invest into getting a new fill plug, they tend to leak after almost 30 years of service.

I'll bet you it is an LSD. I believe that tag on the bottom left bolt usually says so
