It doesnt look sealed... can see the plastic behind it... I did my L7 12" in my truck under the back seat and just screwed down 3/4 wood on top of the sheet metal bowl already there...with some 1" window foam from ace sticky on one side stuck to the bottom of the board where it meets the metal and it works better then i ever figured... I was thinking of doing something like this myself cause when i take the doors off i have no radio since i dont have a back hatch either... was debating on where to put speakers... i think on mine it will get to wet back there though...

All I want to know is how it sounds. I've seen those XJ pods but only an 8in sub??? WTF? I mean I need a little more beat than that. Plus it's black and would need to be painted to match.
I wish they made stealth boxes for XJs.

Where would you even put a stealth box? The xj is really limited on space. The only problem I see with the Box you built is it doesnt look like a sealed box. So I am just wondering how much it rattles and what it sounds like when it hits. Good idea but not being a sealed box I dont think it will work that good.

Sorry for the late reply here. I have yet to purchase my amp so no sound yet, but will let you know. I have done a few systems in the past but mostly boxes. Its a 12" sub. I left the stock plastic panel in tack for now. I screwed trough to the metal behind the plastic. I suppose if you want to screw to the plastic you could but I'm sure it would vibrate like crazy so I wouldn't do it. I don't have a template for it. Material wise its cheap since its 3/4" MDF with some speaker box felt glued to the surface. The time is whats more. I don't know how much it would cost me to make one but I'll think about it. Its much nicer then them cheap plastic ones IMO, plus I can build it to hold a 8, 10, or 12. If your interested in buying one from me let me know, I'll get a cost.

you can just get a free flow sub that doesn't really need an enclosure. tuck that in there and it will sound sweet. and keeps it safely out of the way.
great thread.

I know about the air space deal. I am going to see how it sounds first. If the airspace is off a little I don't care its not an extreme system, and since most subs have a "range" of cubic feet or volume per manufacturers recommendations its all on what sub you chose to put in it. Plus a Closed system will work fine and is ideal for this situation. That said I will try to get it close if I am a little off but I don't want to make it much bigger since I want more space in the back since I haul stuff. You can always modify the stock plastic panel to make the volume exact. I will get a cost to you guys soon.
I did a fair amount of reading on this before I built it.
