Crank Shaft Sensor Mopar #
Trying to determine the proper Mopar # for a CPS on a '96 Cherokee 4.0 Automatic.
Had the dealer send me one and right away noticed it was not what I look to have on my XJ. It is all plastic and only one bolt attachment ( MOPAR #5602 7280) vs the metal strap attach and two bold formation. I called and questioned it gave them my VIN and they said it was incorrect and said the original part (5602 6882) is discontinued... not in stock for them. Soooo... I call another dealer and he says the 5602 7280 (the one I have) is correct and the other is for a manual tran. I don't seam to be able to get a straight answer. My plan is to take my Jeep in and have the part replaced but want to make sure I have the correct part. Thanks in advance to anyone that can help.

If you are looking for a CPS for a 1996 XJ, two CPS' were available.
Part number 56026921 (round pins in connector)
Part number 56027865 - XJ with sales code XCY (OBDII flat pins in the connector). Later production '96 XJ.
Either one is for a manual trans or AW4 trans.
Rockauto has pics of them. Search by the part numbers I listed.
Determine if you have flat pins or round pins.

Thanks CCKen!!!
Can you clarify what you mean by round pins vs flat pins. I have not removed CPS but have looked at it and it looks like the numbers you called with the metal strap connector (flat pin???)
I searched all the numbers at Rockauto. I now have 4 MOPAR #'s with the two you added to the mix. Even more confusing... no wonder I can't get a good answer.

This is the flat pin CPS (56027865).

You'll have to unplug the CPS to see what you have.
Just buy the Mopar CPS. I just posted pics of the aftermarket CPS' so you can see the differences in the pin configurations.

CCKen,thank you for your time! Now I understand. I was looking at the actual mounting bracket. You are referring to the connecting pins. I will look tonight at the Jeep.
The confusing part is why two dealerships would give me different MOPAR numbers then what you are referencing???

Rockchalk,
I'm going through the same thing right now. I have a late 96 XJ. With a flat connector. I originally ordered the Mopar 56027280, but when it arrived it was wrong like the one you described. So returned it. I have since bought a Standard Motor sensor to carry as a spare for on the road, but when I replace the existing sensor I'd like to put the correct OEM sensor in.
I guess for me it would be the 56027865
Thank you to CCKen for the background info and references. As always!

SUCESS!!!! CCKen was correct!
Last night I built a set of four ramps out of a couple old 10' 2"X8"... cut and stacked in three layers for 4.5" of lift. Did some in garage wood crawling up them and now had room to somewhat comfortably get under my XJ. Half an hour later and every ratchet extension I could get my hands on and I liberated the old crank sensor.
Mopar #6502 6921(round pin) printed on the bottom!!!!
Dealership definitely sent me the wrong item AND gave me the wrong number for the part they thought it should be.
Now its just a matter of finding the new part... working on that today.
Thanks CCKen and good luck Jordan.
