Default Crank Position Sensor

Did they change the plug on these? I just replaced mine last night in the dark, got the old one out and realized the plugs were different. All of the parts websites I found all showed the new style plug. Round, with 3 prongs in the shape of a triangle..where the old plug is flat with the 3 prongs in a row. The box didnt come with the corresponding plug so I had to cut and paste the old plug to the new sensor. It works fine, hopefully will fix my loss of power in higher RPMs during hot days...

Just curious..

You got the wrong plug. IDK if they changed them, or what year, but I have a 1987, and mine is the three in a row, not a triangle. I know because I just changed the PITA awhile back. On my 1989 it was the same, and it was a manual, and my current one is an auto, so that can't be the variable either. Sorry, typing outloud!! Hope this helps in some way!! Good luck!! Later!!

Yep you got the wrong one..I got mine at I think either Autozone or Advanced Auto and it's the old style and I drive a 91 XJ as well.. You should be able to get one at either of those there in Edmond off Broadway..

Ok I just looked at mine on my jeep which is a 91 XJ.. My plug looks like the one in your second picture...If yours looks like the first pic then I dunno that's odd...You probably needed a CPS for a 90 model then..I dunno that's bizarre...

I was thinking of a different plug that looked like the 3 in a row...I dunno man but that is bizarre...I know there are some differences in the 91's made before 05/xx/91 not sure the say but I do remember that month being an issue on some things with the 91's..

Yes the engine has been replaced... now I am curious as to what it came out of.. Any one have a site to run the # on the engine and see what it came from? I will try to take a pic tonight of the plug I have.. I owe someone a pic of the shifter boot anyways..

prerunner any idea what the block casting # is? No matter what motor is in it the wiring isn't for your model for sure./.

I realize this now... my worry is what else is different? I dont have the block casting # on me. Where is it located on the engine? I am at work as long as it's not too hard to get to I may be able to run out there and get it.

Not sure on the casting number, but i will tell you if your plug is flat then you have a renix wiring harness, and hopefully the guy swapped a renix engine in there. YEAH!!!

Ok.. so I think I found where the serial number is or is supposed to be. There is flat spot about 1.5"x3.5" on the passenger side just below the 2 or 3rd spark plug, but I couldnt make out anything on it except for what appears to be a 11 on the right end of it. There is a sticker on the valve cover though that had some numbers on it. Perhaps they will mean something to someone..
