Speaking of spark plugs........I see that MSD has plugs now, and they had an ad on the back cover of Hot Rod magazine, for iridium plugs. Hard to say who makes them, and they sure don't make then in-house...

I like to use a cap and rotor with brass terminals. I usually take a Q-tip and smear a little Ox-Gard on them to help keep the corrosion down.

I plan on buying this kit. I'm not familiar with the plugs but they're copper. Does anybody have anything to say about this ignition tune up kit?

Well I guess it's decent quality, although the price is high in my opinion for what it is. Unless you order something else, you're going to have to pay shipping on it.

I think you can get equal or better, at a better price, at NAPA or O'Reilly's.

I used the Champion copper type when I did the plugs, wires, cap & rotor. It was running OK before that though...

If you want a tune-up kit, go to NAPA and get Champions and Belden for much less than Quadratec's rip-off prices. Or email kolak@aol.com and order one of his kits (MSD coil, Magnecore wires, single platinum plugs, and brass cap/rotor). He'll supply other plugs if you request them.

Here is one with a mild Drag Radial tire tune, only about 1000 HP and on a 3 step. Fully street legal and running through the exhaust 3 1/2" Dr. Gas X-Pipe setup and Spin Tech mufflers.

^This, the Accel kit is decent, but I don't think it is worth $80. If you want an "upgrade" I'd get a set of Taylor Thunder-volt wires ($40), a Davis-Unified-Ignition cap/rotor ($25), and pick up a set of NGK Z5R5Ns or Champion RC12ECCs at you local auto-parts store. If you want to "upgrade" your coil you can add a MSD 8228 as well for an additional $45 if you want to run platinum or iridium plugs (if you're sticking with copper plugs the OE coil is fine, though if yours is old it may be beneficial to replace it with at least a new OE equivalent coil). Both the Taylor wires and Davis cap/rotor are made in the USA which is pretty rare these days (the MSD "Blaster" coil is made in China though, as is the competitive Accel "Super Coil").

Wires: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/ta...model/cherokee (available in other colors as well)

Alternatively if you want to go cheaper the $25 Taylor "Street-Thunder" wires are equivalent to the ones in that Accel Kit (8mm 500 ohm/foot). http://www.summitracing.com/parts/ta...model/cherokee

Cap/Rotor: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/du...model/cherokee (available in other colors as well)

Default spark plugs

try to stick with champion plugs gapped properly, don't do any of the multi electrode bull****, just do standard champion spark plugs, it will keep your Cherokee very happy, I work at a dealership and many SES lights are caused by spark plugs that are not recommended by the manufacturer.. if they worked before they will work now.. don't fix something that isn't broke.

Also worth noting, if you do decide to upgrade the coil, for a 99 you will also need the wiring adaptor, since the coil plug changed in 97, but all the aftermarket "upgrade" coils use the old style plug (or you can go to the junkyard and cut a plug off of a 91-96).
