Default Cooling Fan Switch at relay?

How do you wire in a cooling fan bypass switch at the relay?

I am trying to put in a switch on my dash that allows me to turn the fan on whenever i am off roading for extra cooling. But i was wondering if anyone knew how to do it that will still allow the fan to be turned on automatically with the A/C and defrost. Sorry, i my original post made no sense, i just realized that! haha.

The relay is located on the drivers side ride adjacent to the top of the fender. There should be an orange wire running into it. That is the wire you should wire your switch to. Then hook your switch power to the lighter and the ground as well.

sorry for being a retard about this, but just to make sure i just want to splice that orange wire and hook both ends of the spliced wire up to the wire from the switch, so its like a 3 way? haha i don't know how else to describe it. And then the switch i just need to hook up the 12 volt from the cig. lighter, and a ground, and obviously a wire to that orange spliced wire? Sorry if that doesn't make sense... i just don't want to jack something up. Thanks for the help!

Yes you are right. Make sure you splice into the orange wire on the side of the relay closest to the firewall. Once I cut the wire I didn't do a 3 way splice. I left the wire coming from the firewall out and just connected up to the one going to the relay.

no, you're not necessarily right...you need to know which pin on the relay is the ACC power pin, and that is the one you splice to.

you can NOT bypass the relay. end result will be lots of bad fuses.

On my RHD 95 it is a purple with pink stripe wire and grounds when the ECU wants the fan to turn on on 91+ XJ's.
So you tap into the purple and pink wire run a wire to a switch and then from the switch to ground.
Switch on = manual control fan on
Switch off = computer controlled fan

Err sorry I now see you have a '89

Tap the two wires going to the radiator temp switch, run those 2 wires to the switch on your dash, you will be bypassing the switch in the radiator when you close the swsitch on your dash. The other way will work , but theses wires are all accessable by popping the hood, no dash disassembly.
