Default Convert ABS to Non ABS

Here's the deal, I have a 91 XJ with a 4.0, an auto trans, and D35 rear diff. I'm looking to upgrade my rear diff to a disc brake setup (maybe a D44 or Ford 8.8) but the problem seems to be nothing is compatible with my damn ABS system in the XJ. Has anyone done an ABS to non ABS conversion here? I know I would have to change the Master Cyl and Booster, but would I have to change the proportioning valve also? I've also read that the pedal rod is longer in a non ABS setup, would the rod need to be changed as well? Is there anything else that would need to be changed over (front calipers, etc...)? Any help on this would be greatly appreciated (especially from anyone who has done it), so I can start gatering parts for the project.

I've done it (can't find my thread on JU but it's there). A 96-97 mc and booster will bolt right up. you will need to reflare some brake lines and naturally bleed the entire system but it's quite simple. It'll take about 3-4 hours and lots of oil dry as you will have lots of brake fluid on the floor from the abs system. PS I have a booster and MC (needs a cap) I'll let you have reasonable if you don't have one already. Brake performance will improve a bunch.

I found someone else who did it also, he used a 96 Booster (dual diaphram) and replaced everything including the pedal assy. As I understand it, the pedal assy mc pushrod mounts on the opposite side as opposed to a non-abs system (rod on left side of pedal instead of right or vice versa) which is problably not a big deal, and then replace the proportioning valve too. Sounds pretty straight forward. I appreciate your offer, I have a line on some parts and there is a 4X4 swap meet on March 8th I will go check out too. Thanks

Go for it! I had no pedal problems on my 91. You shouldn't either.

i did it on a 1994 grand. it had a ford 8.8 in the back all i did was pull the fuse for the abs and drive it for ever like that and brake worked just like i had no abs. then i just ran new lines just like my 99 cherokee was b/c it didnt have no abs and took the abs box thing out. but if u want to take abs off your jeep just take the fuse out or unplug it it will drive just fine
