A new used 4x4 xj then, it takes a lot more then most think to switch from a 2wd to a 4wd. It nickels and dimes you to death over and over again, the only "ok" way to do it is to get a donor mj/xj of the same year or close and do it that way. But even then it takes a lot. I say this because I did the swap and I wish I would have just got a new already 4x4 mj and built it from there. Good luck either way hope it all works out for you in the end.

Lol. It cost me probably $450 total. 3 hours to do the D30 and a little service work and a day to do the tranny with my grandpa helping me which slowed me down

I'm saying consider a auto locking diff (singular, not plural) in the rear.
Yep, u'll be amazed alright at the traction both on and off road.....especially when u see those 2 black strips in the rear view mirror.
U r obviously thinking manual locking diff (spool) and don't know what a auto locking diff is/does.
This video will help explain how a auto locking diff can greatly improve traction.....it will out-perform 4WD with 2 open diffs. Forget that the video says Eaton G80, that's just a brand/model of a auto locking diff. There are several different brands/models available. We have the PowerTrax No-Slip in our 2WD XJ and again, about 2 hours in the driveway and ordinary tools and you're done.

A lunchbox style locker is obviously different
thanks for the video anyways I guess
But I do agree a locker in the rear will work wonders. Im still running open diff in my d35, and the dead front axle in the front.
And this Jeep has already seen hell

A spool will not change. A Lincoln locker will not change. A manual locker is either a spool or open diff and will only change manually with a switch.
A auto locking (or auto unlocking) diff unlocks automatically when it needs to perform like a differential (opposite wheels turning different speeds, as in a turn). When opposite wheel speeds are equal, no diff is needed so a auto locker will lock automatically thus applying torque to both wheels equally.
