I just did mine yesterday, its a 89 (renix) my adapter bolt was also a 5/8 bolt, the male to male threaded was a 7/8" to remove it from the adapter (have to use a deep socket to install on the block its recessed a bit), the oil filter suggested does not work, the only filter i could find that does fit was a little longer (when i get home i will post the part number), i also had to cut the male to male threaded bolt down a 1/2" to get the filter on. I will also take some pics and post them. had to change a couple things but still an easy install

Hi Guys,
I now have 3,600 miles on my PH3614 direct to block. Will change it again fairly soon. 100% trouble free, not one drop since did it.

Mine is a 96 4.0, ones in the 80s may be different, but the PH3614 fits perfect on mine. What will determine the seal is whether the diameter of the oil seal matches the block, and the Fram Ph3614 is perfect in that regard and its the biggest that will fit for my XJ.

The brand should be interchangable, its a very common filter so the threads and gasket diameter should be identical when you cross reference to another brand, but there could be outside dimensions variations.

Just to help, STP S2903 = Fram 3593A = Any Honda from the 90's. The Fram 3614 for the newer Jeeps is a super common Toyota filter.

Also, if someone wants to take pics for this next time they do it, that would be great

This took me fifteen minutes to do on my 92. The bolt was a 5/8. After that I followed your process. The only things I did different were the bolt, I had to cut some off of the male to male adapter, and instead of bolt cutters I used vise grips as tight as I could squeeze and pried and hit them with a hammer against the block and the pin came right out. From up top BTW..

Did this before I sent my engine to the machine shop
Here's a little fun fact

My first 3 automobiles
1991 Geo Metro (sold)
1998 Lexus ES300
1992 Jeep Cherokee

They all take the same Oil filter now

I did this to my 1992. Word of caution, your going to have to cut the nipple off some in a Cherokee. I did this with the engine out of the Jeep and put the 3330 filter on before reinstallation. Had to (you wouldn't have to if you don't mind using something to cut and chancing getting sparks in the engine) Yank the engine back off. Basically I couldn't take the filter off on the jeep
